The Temple of God
Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
-1 Corinthians 3:17
Notes:
In the Old Testament, a temple was constructed and designated as a place where God would meet with His people, and that His abiding presence would dwell. It was also a place where worship and the sacrifices of animals would take place each year by the high priests for the sins of the people. All this however, was a pattern of the things to come. Christ appeared nearly 2000 years ago as the great High Priest who entered through a more perfect tabernacle by the shedding of His own blood for sins, once for all.
All this being said, the individual believer and the body of Christ is the spiritual temple that God’s Spirit dwells, not physical buildings. When Jesus was with the woman at the well, He corrected her thinking on this and said that worship was not bound by a location (the mountain), but by the omnipresence of the Spirit and truth. Although fellowship and the gathering of the saints are very important, do not think you have to wait for your next church assembly to truly worship God. I am even convinced that our level of worship corporately directly hinges on our level of worship individually
Willing to Take the Challenge?
As with the Samaritan woman, remember that worship is not a place, but of the Spirit that dwells in you. God actually searches for people to worship Him in this manner! Are you willing to be transformed in your thinking on worship and give Him the glory and praise that our risen Lord deserves?
