The Ministry of Encouragement
Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the feeble. Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not Behold, your God will come with vengeance;
The recompense of God will come, but He will save you.” –Isaiah 35:3-4
Notes:
As we have received grace and strength from the Lord, He desires that that same grace and strength flow horizontally toward others. Grace is not seeking to find weaknesses or faults in others, but rather looking for good qualities that deserve praise and affirmation.
We are exhorted in Scripture to encourage one another daily, as we see the Day drawing near. When God speaks, it brings forth life where there is death and light where there is darkness. Because we are made in the image of God, our words carry power, life and death as well. We are instructed as disciples of Christ to uphold the weary with a word, and encourage those that are exhausted.
My wife constantly gives me grace and affirmation, with sayings such as “you’re a wonderful husband or you’re handsome”. While it may be stretching the truth, when I hear those words, man I feel like a million bucks!
Willing to Take the Challenge?
When you look at people around you, don’t eagerly try to point out their faults or weaknesses. Rather, be ready to bring out the good qualities in them, and deliver praise and grace to them every moment you can. When you see you parents, tell them how thankful you are for them. When you see your children, tell them how proud you are of them and how much you love them, and when you look at yourself, despite the likes and dislikes, reaffirm yourself who you are in Christ and how much God truly loves you.
