A More Sure Word
For He received from God the Father honor and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”. And this voice which came from heaven we heard when we were with him in the holy mount. We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: – 2 Peter 1:17-19
In the last recorded letter that Peter wrote before His death, he explained to believers that although he saw Jesus with his own eyes transfigured on the mount, and heard with his own ears the voice of the Father, there still remained greater evidence that Jesus is the Messiah. This sure word, he explained, is the prophetic writings of the Old Testament that were fulfilled by Jesus. For example, the prophet Isaiah lived nearly 740 years before Jesus was ever born, yet ascribed in great detail His future life and His death:
“Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.” -Isaiah 53:4-5
There are literally hundreds of prophecies in the Law of Moses, the Psalms, and the Prophets that Jesus fulfilled. Jesus explained this to His disciples after His resurrection: Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.“-Luke 24:44
Willing to Take the Challenge?
Are you having doubts about Jesus? Doubt no longer, but take heed unto the truth that His life on earth fulfilled over 400 prophecies written beforehand in the scriptures. In my walk so far, the Lord has allowed me to see great things take place: the healing of the sick, great wonders and signs confirming His Word, and genuine miracles that transformed people’s lives. Nevertheless, there remains in my heart the amazing truth and reality of the fulfillment of the plan of God for His Son outlined in His inspired Word.
In conclusion, God may allow you to have a “mount of transfiguration” experience like Peter where you see and hear things that are absolutely inconceivable. However, we must be grounded and know that we have even greater confirmation; the more sure word of prophecy.
