The Lordship of Jesus Christ
“I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven, One like a Son of Man was coming, And He came up to the Ancient of Days And was presented before Him. And to Him was given dominion, Glory and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations and men of every language Might serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion which will not pass away; and His kingdom is one which will not be destroyed.” – The Book of Daniel 7:13-14
Notes:
The scripture above is one of the most detailed passages in all the Bible of the authority and the Lordship of Jesus Christ, given in a vision to the prophet Daniel around the 6th century B.C.. Here Daniel described how he saw the ‘Ancient of Days’ (the Father) delegate all His dominion, Glory, and authority down to the Son, so that all nations, ethnicities, and races may serve Him. Can you imagine what an incredible moment this must have been! He then says that His kingdom is not an everlasting kingdom which cannot be destroyed, nor will it ever pass away.
Unfortunately, the Lordship of Christ is a teaching that is often neglected today, but in reality it stands as one of the most important realities that we can learn. For many, Jesus is their savior, but not their Lord. However, in the New Testament alone, the word “Lord” in reference to Christ appears over 600 times, while the word “Savior” only appears 24 times.
Because He is Lord, it stands to reason then that obedience to Him is not really optional. A great truth I learned once is that His kingdom will come with or without me involved, but if I really want to be apart of it, I must surrender to Him as Lord of my life and allow Him and His Word to have final authority in everything I do and say. In other words, who and what we serve is an indicator of who our Lord truly is (i.e. ourselves, money, a job, spouses, etc.)

Setting apart Jesus as Lord in our hearts puts us on a paradigm shift and allows us to see things from a different perspective. For example, because Jesus is Lord and has all authority in Heaven and earth, if your marriage is broken, He has all the power and grace necessary to put it back together again, and fill your hearts with unlimited love toward one another. Because Jesus is Lord, if you lose your job, you are already taken care of and have no reason to be anxious about how you are going to live. Because Jesus is Lord, when deep depression fills your heart and overtakes you, He has the ability to remove it to the ends of the universe, and replace it with unspeakable joy!
There is no task too great for Jesus to accomplish, because He is Lord!
