Foundational Principle #2: Faith Toward God
“Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God..,”
–Hebrews 6:1-3
Notes:
The second foundational principle outlined from the Lord is faith toward God. When the Apostle John wrote his first epistle to believers, he gave them the commandment to “Love one another and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Therefore, to repent and believe the gospel was never meant to be a one time act. It is meant to be a continuing, everyday process. Salvation is the continuing transformation by the Spirit of God in the life of the believer through faith and grace: This is a three step process: Justification, sanctification, and glorification. This is why God’s Word is so important. As we study and meditate on it, our minds are changed and renewed and our faith becomes increasingly stronger as we receive the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ through His unbreakable promises.
Willing to Take the Challenge?
The scripture tells us to test ourselves to see if we are in the faith. How do we test ourselves? With the help of the Holy Spirit, we judge ourselves and analyze what fruit we have in our lives. We are to look at not only the fruit of the Spirit (love, joy, peace. etc.), but also by observing His power working through our weaknesses. When you are weak, are you strong?
