A New Identity
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” -2 Corinthians 5:17
I was planning on finishing the teaching on Eternal Judgment today, concluding our series on Hebrews ch. 6, but I have sensed the need to send out a different message today. So we will finish it up on Monday.
In a witness protection program a person is under the protection, the care and the provision of the government. They are given a new name, a new location to live, and a new life completely: basically a new identity. It is a dangerous thing for that person to visit their past, and to go back to the place where they left because their very life is at risk.
You have been given a new identity. Not through an institution, but through the government of the Kingdom of God. Old things have passed away, behold all things have become new. Just as Jacob’s name was changed to Israel, so you have been given a new name in Christ. Your address is no longer earth, but heaven, because you now live and are seated with Him in the Heavenlies.
Willing to Take the Challenge?
It is dangerous to go back to the old nature, the old man because your spiritual life is at risk. Do you not know that your identity will never be found in this world? Remember that you have been born again into a world that is eternal and cannot be shaken.
“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead”. – Philippians 3:13.
